Event Recap: Chicago Community Climate Forum

For our December meet-up, we attended the Chicago Community Climate Forum at the Field Museum, where over 2,000 people gathered to commit to taking action against climate change and fight for healthy communities for all Chicagoans.

It was such an inspiring night filled with local voices and stories, and we saw many familiar faces. Even more exciting, though, was how many new people we heard and met! Speakers included Kim Wasserman-Nieto of Little Village Environmental Justice Organization, Alex Poltorak of Urban Canopy and Dallas Goldtooth of the Indigenous Environmental Network. 

The goals of the forum were to:

-Celebrate community-led climate solutions
-Share stories about the intersection of climate change and our everyday lives
-Build momentum for long-term community climate action
-Inspire new partnerships and networks for a more resilient Chicago region
-Set forth a vision and set of principles on climate and community that we can build on

The night ended with the launch of the Chicago Agreement on Climate and Community, which we signed. You can sign too, here! This event also kicked off the North American Climate Summit where over 50 North American mayors signed the Chicago Climate Charter the following week.

Our January meet-up will be a tour of Meliora's factory, including a soapmaking demonstration. We hope to see you there!
